Text Box: Madison City Farmer’s Market
Artisan Jury Process

The Madison City Farmers Market Board of Directors monitors the overall composition of the market and determines when new vendor openings become available. The Artisan Jury Committee is a specially selected committee approved by the Board. It is the Committee’s job to select new artisan vendors to the MCFM based on certain criteria.

The Committee ensures that juried items excel in the areas of quality, artistic originality of design, local origin or focus, farm-life ambience and overall contribution to market balance. After reviewing an application with these criteria in mind, a decision will be made as to whether or not an applicant will be selected to participate at the MCFM. The committee regularly reviews work sold at the market in order to maintain quality. New work by existing vendors that is significantly different from what was originally reviewed and accepted (including changes in medium, technique or style) may need to be juried as a separate process.

All artwork, craftwork and handiwork sold must be the original hand-made creations of the vendor. Vendors are not permitted to re-sell commercially produced items. Manufactured items can only be used as components of handcrafted work. Reproductions in the form of books, cards, calendars, t-shirts, prints, etc. will not be allowed except under certain circumstances and on a case by case review.

Artisan Applications

In preparation for the beginning of the market season, the Committee will review and categorize all applications, then compile the results. Artisan applications may be accepted after the regular market season has begun, with any new applications being pooled and judged collectively as space becomes available.

New artisans MUST submit the following to be considered for participation in the MCFM. Two (2) close-up photos of items to be exhibited AND one (1) photo of the booth set-up, fully stocked with items of the same type and quality that the applicant plans to sell at the market. Any photos sent by postal mail become the property of the MCFM and will not be returned. Failure to send the required items above will result in applications being discarded.

Those that have been accepted, not accepted, or put on a waiting list will be notified by either e-mail or postal mail. Upon acceptance by the Committee, applicants will be notified to submit their booth fee. After this fee is received, additional information will be sent.
